Sculpting process and materials

Sculpting process and materials

These are the materials I use to build the 'skeleton' of the sculpture. It is essential to make a good armature for the sculpture to be sturdy and durable. Here we have aluminum foil, different sizes of wires, masking tape and pliers.

For the sculpting part I use super sculpey polymer clays. Mainly the 'super sculpey' and 'super sculpey medium blend'. They are oven baked clays. Apoxie sculpt is used to sculpt bases because it's heavy. Since it's rock hard and almost unbreakable once it hardens, I also use it to sculpt small fragile parts. (like spikes or teeth) It's very useful for repairs too! As for mineral oil and vaseline, it's used to smooth the clay before baking (takes care of imperfections and fingerprints)

Sometimes used when painting my pieces. They add subtle tones and gradients to my work when needed.
